Most commonly asked questions
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No, you don’t need a referral to access physiotherapy at home. You can contact us directly to book an appointment. However, if you’ve recently seen your GP or other health professional, it can be helpful to share any relevant information or reports so we can tailor your treatment to your specific needs.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
We understand that plans can change and sometimes things come up unexpectedly. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please contact us by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance so we can offer the slot to another patient.
Unfortunately, cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment time will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
What happens at my appointment?
At your first appointment, your physiotherapist will visit you at home for a chat about your health, goals, and how your condition affects you day to day. We’ll carry out a physical assessment which may include elements such as movement, strength, and balance and then create a personalised treatment plan just for you. Treatment usually begins in the first session, so you can start working towards your goals straight away.
How long will my appointment last?
Your first appointment usually lasts around one hour, giving us plenty of time to get to know you, complete a thorough assessment, and start your treatment. Follow-up sessions are typically 45 minutes, but we can adjust this to suit your needs, energy levels, and goals.
How regularly will I need an appointment?
How often you’ll need physiotherapy depends on your condition, goals, and how you respond to treatment. Some people benefit from weekly sessions at first, while others may need less frequent visits. As you make progress, we’ll review your plan together and adjust the frequency to suit you.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies for each person and depends on your condition, overall health, and what you’d like to achieve. After your first appointment, your physiotherapist will discuss a treatment plan with you and give an idea of how many sessions might be needed to reach your goals.
What do I wear to my appointment?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable! We recommend loose-fitting clothes that are easy to move in, such as joggers, leggings, or a t-shirt. If we’re working on a specific area, like your leg or shoulder, it can help to wear something that allows easy access for example, shorts for leg exercises.
All assessments and treatments are carried out respectfully, with your comfort and consent in mind and you are always welcome to have a family member or friend present if you prefer.
What equipment or space do I need for a home physiotherapy session?
No need to worry as we will bring everything required for your physiotherapy session. Usually, all we need is a small clear area and a comfortable chair or bed nearby. We’ll make the most of the space you have, keeping things simple and effective, and can also bring a portable treatment table if needed.
How do I pay for my sessions?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, cash, cheque, or bank transfer (BACS). You can pay on the day of your appointment, or after we send you an invoice, whichever is easiest for you. If needed, we can also send an invoice to a next-of-kin once we have their permission.
Do you accept insurance?
We don’t work directly with insurance companies, but many insurers will allow you to reclaim some or all of the cost of your sessions. We’re happy to support you with this process, so please give us a call to discuss how it might work for you.
Can family members or caregivers be present during the session?
Absolutely! We welcome family members and caregivers to be part of your sessions if that’s helpful. Involving your support network can be a great way for them to learn exercises and techniques, and it often helps you get the most out of your therapy.
What professional accreditation and insurance do you have?
All our physiotherapists are fully insured, DBS checked, and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). This ensures we meet the highest professional standards and stay up to date with the latest best practice in physiotherapy.
What appointment times do you offer?
We offer appointments between 9am and 7pm Monday to Saturday but please call to discuss Sunday appointments if required.
Are you able to visit my relative in a care home?
Yes absolutely! We are happy to provide tailored physiotherapy for your relative in these settings. You can find more information on our “Physio for Your Family” page for details on how we work with care homes and support residents.
